Toronto’s Eco-Roof Incentive Program provides incentives to property owners to support the expansion of green roof and cool roof installations across the city. Known collectively as eco-roofs, these technologies along with other City strategies help to make Toronto more resilient and better adapted to climate change.
Eco-roofs have many environmental and economic benefits to the community and to building owners. Eco-roofs reduce energy consumption and related costs, they help reduce a building’s greenhouse gas emissions and they help cool the city down during hot summer days.

- Reduces energy cost by reflecting more sunlight and absorbing less heat
- Aids in mitigating the effects of urban heat
- Extend the lifespan of the roof by minimizing thermal expansion and contraction
Green Roof Incentive

- $100/m2 installed
- up to $1,000.00 for a structural assessment
Cool Roof Incentive
(Up to $50,000)
- $5/m2 for a cool roof with a new membrane
- $2/m2 for a cool roof coating over an existing roof
